Those of you studying the early days of the Cold War right now might find this interesting.

Damn commies everywhere!

Say, is the fellow smoking at the bar Ronnie Reagan? Looks a bit like him. Always thought he was commie - one that protests to strongly and all that.

I think it's fairly well known that Reagan was a bit of a lefty by the standards of the day in his earlier years. He grew out of it as people do (hey John Reid was a communist once, or so I am told). He was interviewed by the House on UnAmerican Activities in 1947 while he was President of the Screen Actors about communists in Hollywood. I think his responses speak rather well of him actually.

REAGAN: Sir, I detest, I abhor their [communist] philosophy, but I detest more than that their tactics, which
are those of the fifth column, and are dishonest, but at the same time I never as a citizen want to
see our country become urged, by either fear or resentment of this group, that we ever
compromise with any of our democratic principles through that fear or resentment. I still think
that democracy can do it.
